Recommender System Guidelines Follow
Last updated: 15th September 2025
Introduction
RedGIFs uses recommender systems to help users discover videos and creators that may be most relevant to them. These guidelines explain in plain language how our recommender systems work, what factors influence the recommendations you see, and what choices you have as a user. This information is provided in accordance with the EU Digital Services Act (DSA).
What Recommendation Features We Offer
If you have an account with RedGIFs, in addition to the standard feeds you also have access to a personalized “For You” feed.
- The For You feed shows content from profiles and niches you follow on the site.
- Niches are collections of accounts organized under themes.
- If you are not signed in, you will see a Trending feed, which displays popular content.
- Related videos may also appear based on the video you are currently watching.
Main Factors That Influence Recommendations
Our trending feed uses an algorithm that takes into account:
- Likes
- Views
- Percentage of video watched
- Recency of the content
These signals help ensure that the content you see is both relevant and current.
Goal of the Recommender System
The primary goal of our recommender system is to show you relevant content.
Your Controls Over Recommendations
You can influence your recommendations by:
- Selecting your preferred content category when you sign up (Straight, Trans, or Animated).
- Following profiles and niches to customize your For You feed.
These preferences and actions directly shape what appears in your recommendations.
Opting Out of Personalization
Users who browse RedGIFs without signing up will see the generic Trending feed. Once you create an account, your experience becomes personalized, and there is no option to switch back to a generic feed without browsing anonymously.
Content Eligibility for Recommendations
All content on RedGIFs must comply with our Terms of Service and Content Guidelines.
- Content that violates our policies or is illegal is removed from the service and will never appear in recommendations.
- Within the permitted content on RedGIFs, there are currently no categories that are excluded from recommendations.
Updates to These Guidelines
We may update these guidelines from time to time. Significant changes will be communicated through the platform.
