I’m having issues with Subreddits. How can I turn off Spotlight button on Reddit? Follow
Reddit can be a powerful place to share content, but it can also feel unpredictable depending on the subreddit. Some communities are very strict about external links or embedded content, and that can lead to removals, warnings, or friction even when you’re just sharing your own work.
The good news is you don’t have to deal with that if it’s not working for you.
How to turn off Spotlight on Reddit
You can disable the Spotlight embed directly in your Studio settings. Go to your Creator Studio, open Settings, and find the Spotlight section. From there, you’ll see an option to turn off the Reddit embed / Spotlight button. Once it’s switched off, Spotlight will no longer appear on Reddit for your posts.
This gives you full control over whether your content includes that embedded experience or not.
Why this option exists
We introduced this control because creator experiences on Reddit aren’t always consistent.
Some subreddits welcome external content and drive strong engagement. Others have strict moderation rules or evolving policies that can result in posts being removed simply because they include a link or embed. We’ve also heard from creators who felt uncertain or even targeted in certain communities because of how these rules are enforced.
Instead of forcing a single setup for everyone, we wanted to make sure you can choose what feels safest and most effective for your situation.
What changes when you turn it off
When the Spotlight embed button is disabled, your content will no longer include the embedded Reddit button. That means fewer risks of posts being flagged or removed due to link-based rules, and more flexibility in how you share content across different communities.
It doesn’t affect your ability to post or share manually.
Can you change it later?
Yes. This setting is fully reversible. If you decide later that Reddit is working well for your content, you can turn Spotlight back on anytime in Studio.
